Jenny* – The price of a child.
One night when we were doing outreach in a bar in Pattaya, I immediately spotted a tiny, little Cambodian girl with big eyes filled with fear. She was waiting in front of the bar trying to sell gum and massages to foreign man. One of our Cambodian team members, Rose, happened to be in Pattaya for the outreach.
She immediately started to translate what the little girl was saying to us and her words broke my heart: “My mom sold me for $250 USD to a trafficker in Pattaya. I get beaten by the woman who owns me If I don’t bring in enough money at night. I work from 6:00 at night until 7:00 in the morning, selling gum to tourists, and giving massages to sex tourists in the local bars.” I immediately called the anti-trafficking police and arranged for a raid to save this little girl.
Three days later our team watched as 10 officers scouted the area looking for her. Then I saw her – one of the officers had found her, and she leaped into my arms trembling from head to toe.
After years of working with the police, XP Missions has created an incredible network to save, rescue, and restore these children. It took 20 different people from three different nations to save one little life. Isn’t it amazing how God is willing to do so much to save even one!
I will always remember that little girl in my arms shaking with fear, but also with excitement that she was finally free. No matter what. No matter where. God is well able!
“All your children shall be taught by the LORD, And great shall be the peace of your children. In righteousness you shall be established; You shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; And from terror, for it shall not come near you.” – Isaiah 54:13
