In response to the need to provide rescue and shelter for minor girls who have been trafficked into prostitution in India, XP Missions is working with Oasis to set up an aftercare home for twelve girls.
When compared with the large amount of trafficking victims in need of care and protection in Mumbai, it may appear that this home is only meeting the need in a small way. However, it is not an Oasis goal to become an institution, but rather to have a small staff: beneficiary ratio, and to provide a high-quality level of care, which is only possible with a small capacity home.
Established in the UK in 1985, Oasis exists to transform communities by promoting inclusion and confronting injustice. Oasis tackles poverty in all its forms through pioneering education, healthcare and housing initiatives.
At each home, a personal plan of care is devised for each individual. In addition to the residential staff at the home, support staff will also give consultation to the home in the areas of education, counseling, health, and rehabilitation.
It is not Oasis’ aim to become a place of long-term residential care, but rather that each individual is equipped with the necessary skills to be economically independent. Oasis is accomplishing this through the provision of education and vocational training for each of the individuals.
XP Missions will work further with Oasis and other organizations in India to provide the best possible solution for restoration and reintegration for children and women coming out of the sex trade and the streets.
