Background
The problem of children being trafficked in SE Asia from neighboring foreign countries is pervasive and devastating. These children may be abandoned orphans, may have been kidnapped by traffickers, or may have been sold by their families into trafficking. Unfortunately, children command a high price in the trafficking marketplace. They are typically used and then discarded when they become too ill or disabled to make money for their abusers.

If the children are from neighboring countries they are placed in an adult refugee shelters. Though they are innocent pawns, the children continue to be victimized with rape and abuse in these settings. No medical care is provided except in emergency, and there is no emotional care. They then become vulnerable to continued maltreatment and are placed back into situations where they will once again fall prey to traffickers.

Thus, even when a child can be identified and extricated from a brothel or other enslaved situation, their problems do not end there. Though there are organizations working on identifying the perpetrators, few programs have been developed to address the healing and rehumanization of the children

Mission: The Extreme Love Children’s Home has the goal of identifying, rescuing and initiating the healing process for children trafficked in SE Asia. The immediate goal is to provide emergency medical care and counseling. The longer term goal is to move the children to a safe living environment where they will continue to heal from their past and create a plan for their future.

Ages: up to 12 years of age, the focus being on the youngest victims

Housing: A house rented outside of the city, isolated but close to the hospital. Four to five bedrooms will be optimal. Efforts will be made to have older children in their own bedroom to minimize risk of children perpetrating against one another.

Physician: A physician or team of physicians will been identified who will perform an initial medical workup on each child coming into the shelter. If a child were to be hospitalized, funding would have to raised to pay for the care.

Assessent of the Individual Child: As a child enters the home, an assessment will be made of the following:

1. Basic needs (clothing, etc)
2. Familial History
3. Physical needs / assistance
4. Medical/Dental conditions
5. Emotional / Behavioral symptoms
6. Drug/Alcohol addictions
7. Spiritual beliefs
8. Need for interpretive services

Networking: A key goal of the current project is to connect with other organizations within Southeast Asia who share the goal of ending child trafficking.
